The role of the Altar Server is to assist the Priest, who leads the Church in the worship of Almighty God. It is the duty of the Server to help the Priest so that the Sacred Liturgy is celebrated in a reverent, efficient, and beautiful manner. This requires proper training, so that each Server may carry out his duties with dignity, devotion, and love worthy of our Lord.
The first responsibility of every Server is prayer. Serving at the altar is not an end in itself; rather, we come to Mass first and foremost to worship God. Assisting the Priest flows from this worship. These two purposes must always go hand in hand—our service at the altar should be guided by prayer, love, and reverence, never performed as a mere routine.
All boys who have received their First Holy Communion are invited to become Altar Servers. If you are interested, please call the rectory and leave your name and telephone number so that we may arrange a time for training.
