54 Day Rosary Novena – Day 49

Day 49

In the Old Testament, the Arch of the Covenant carried the law of God, the Ten Commandments reveled by the Most High to His servant Moses. It was on that mountain that Moses had an intimate encounter with God. He was so transformed by that meeting, that his very countenance was changed. Moses used to veil his face so that the people of God could not see this transformation. Not that he was embarrassed , but he hid the effects of God’s glory out of humility. Our Lady is the Arc of the Covenant. Not the Covenant made of stone, but the New and Eternal Covenant sealed in the blood of the Lamb. During the second part of the Consecration at Mass, the Priest reads: “Take this all of you and drink from it, for this is the Chalice of My blood, the Blood of the New and Eternal Covenant.” In the New dispensation, the Covenant is the very flesh and blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ that was offered in sacrifice to the Eternal Father and offered in the unbloody sacrifice upon the altars of our Church. This flesh is the same flesh that was conceived in the spotless womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Our Lady is the fulfillment , and perfect Arc of the Covenant. The Old was a tabernacle made of wood, the new is made of flesh that was shared with the Messiah. Mary is full of grace, because she is the Arc created by the One who was to be conceived in her womb. She was created spotless, Immaculate, by the action of her Son applied before hand. She is “full of grace” by His action, and her free will response to His grace. The Old Arc contained the Commandments, the Manna, and the Rod of Arron. Arron, the brother of Moses was a priest of the Old Covenant. All is now fulfilled in Christ. Our Lady is the Arc of the Covenant, who carried and by grace continues to carry the “Bread of Life,”  the High Priest of the New Covenant, and the giver of the New Law.

Quotes:

“At that time, the Savior coming from the Virgin, the Ark, brought forth His own Body into the world from that Ark, which was gilded with pure gold within by the Word, and without by the Holy Ghost; so that the truth was shown forth, and the Ark was manifested….And the Savior came into the world bearing the incorruptible Ark, that is to say His own body.” — St. Hippolytus

“For this cause did the prophet David dance before the Ark.  And what shall we say is the Ark, but holy Mary?  For as the Ark bore within it the tables of the Testament, so Mary bore the Heir of the same Testament:  it preserved within it the Law, she the Gospel; it had the voice, she the word, of God.  The Ark, moreover, was radiant within and without with the shining of gold, whilst holy Mary gleamed within and without with the splendor of virginity; it was adorned with earthly gold, she with heavenly.” — St. Ambrose

“God might have created a more beautiful world; He might have made heaven more glorious; but it was impossible for Him to exalt a creature higher than Mary in making her His Mother.” — St. Bonaventure
