54 Day Rosary Novena – Day 47

Day 47

There is no place that people feel more alone than in their sins. People often tell the priest: “Every time I go to confess, it’s the same old thing. I never seem to overcome my sins.” Eve opens the door that has led to the pain and destruction we all face in this life. By her rejection of God’s plan, Original Sin with its effects entered the world. Yet, the Blessed Virgin Mary undid what Eve started through her fiat – “Be it done unto me according to your word.”  Although Our Lady could not eliminate the damage caused by Original Sin, she can limit it. Our Lady is the great intercessor for fallen humanity. She is the Immaculate Queen who leads the angels into battle. The ancient prayer, Tota Pulcra summarizes the beauty of the Immaculate Virgin and Refuge of Sinners:

You are all beautiful, Mary, and the original stain [spot] (of sin) is not in you. You are the glory of Jerusalem, you are the joy of Israel, you give honour to our people. You are an advocate of sinners. O Mary, Virgin most intelligent, Mother most merciful.
Pray for us, Plead for us, To the Lord Jesus Christ.

Quotes:

“Thou hast sinned O Christian, but dost thou desire forgiveness? Fear not, for  God’s desire to grant it is greater than  your desire to receive it.” – Saint John Chrysostom

“Why should you fear, O sinner, as long as you detest your sins? How could He reject the repentant sinner, since He came down from Heaven to seek that sinner?” Saint Thomas of Villanova

“Hasten to Mary, for I say it without hesitation, the Son will certainly hear the Mother. She is the ladder of safety for poor sinners. She is my greatest assurance; she is the only ground of my hope.” – Saint Bernard

“Happy is he who loves thy holy name, O Mary! Thy name is a glorious and wonderful name; they who invoke thy powerful name at the hour of death have nothing to fear from the assaults of hell.” – Saint Bonaventure

The Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary

Prayer before the recitation: Sign of the cross. Hail Mary.

In petition (first 27 days): Hail, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, my Mother Mary, hail! At thy feet I humbly kneel to offer thee a Crown of Roses, blood red roses to remind thee of the passion of thy divine Son, with Whom thou didst so fully partake of its bitterness, each rose recalling to thee a holy mystery, each 10 bound together with my petition for a particular grace. O Holy Queen, dispenser of God’s graces, and Mother of all who invoke thee! Thou canst not look upon my gift and fail to see its binding. As thou receivest my gift, so wilt thou receive my petition; from thy bounty thou wilt give me the favor I so earnestly and trustingly seek. I despair of nothing that I ask of thee. Show thyself my Mother!
