Masses for Ash Wednesday
7:00 am & 5:30 pm
Abstinence from Meat
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday and all Fridays during Lent. All persons who have completed their fourteenth year are bound by the law of abstinence.
All adults, 18 and up to the beginning of their sixtieth year are bound to the obligation of fasting. On these days, only one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each ones needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed.
All Fridays of the year are considered a day of penance. However, in the United States, the obligation to abstain from meat is only required during Lent. All Catholics are to perform some form of penance on all Fridays of the year.
Pastors and parents are to see to it that minors who are not bound by the law of fast and abstinence are educated in an authentic sense of penance.
