Latin Mass Parts – Gloria

This week, we will begin the “Gloria” .

Following the penitential rite, all sing:

Gloria in excelsis Deo et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis. Laudamus te, benedicimus te, adoramus te, glorificamus te, gratias agimus tibi propter magnam gloriam tuam, Domine Deus, Rex caelestis, Deus Pater omnipotens. Domine Fili unigenite, Iesu Christe, Domine Deus, Agnus Dei, Filius Patris, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis; qui tollis peccata mundi, suscipe deprecationem nostram. Qui sedes ad dexteram Patris, miserere nobis. Quoniam tu solus Sanctus, tu solus Dominus, tu solus Altissimus, Iesu Christe, cum Sancto Spiritu in gloria Dei Patris. Amen

Word Translation:

Gloria = Glory; in = to;  excelsis = the highest; Deo = to God;  et = and; terra = earth; pax = peace; hominibus = to men; bonae = of good; voluntatis = will.

Literal Translation:

Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth to men of good will.

Word Translation:

Laudamus = we praise; te = you; benedicimus = we bless; adoremus = we adore; glorificamus = we glorify; gratias = thanks; agimus = we give; tibi = to you; propter = because of; magnam = great; gloriam = glory; tuam = your.

Literal Translation:

We praise You, we bless You, we adore You, we glorify You, we give You thanks for Your great glory.

Literal Translation:

Lord God, heavenly King, God the Father Almighty.  Lord Jesus Christ, only begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.

suscipe = receive; deprecationem = prayer; nostram = our; qui = who; sedes = sit; ad = at; dexteram = the right hand; Patris = of the Father; miserere = have mercy; nobis = on us; quoniam = for; tu = you; solus = alone; sanctus = holy; Dominus = Lord; Altissimus = the Most High; cum = with; Sancto = the Holy; Spiritu = Spirit; gloria = the glory

Literal Translation:

receive our prayer.  You who sit at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For You alone are the Holy One, You alone are the Lord, You alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.
